New EV Launches For The New Year
The year 2020 will crank up the heat with some amazing car launches by different brands across the Indian automobile industry. Since April 2020 is coming near, brands are aggressively working on products that will comply with BS-6 norms. Let’s take a look at some of these vehicles.
Mahindra will launch Mahindra eKUV100 during the early 2020s and as per new updates, the model will come with an updated electric motor that makes 40kW. The battery will charge completely in just 5hr 45min and 55min on a fast charger. The driving range for the eKUV100 will be 120kms and it is expected to start a niche of affordable high-riding EV hatchbacks in India without any arrivals.
Mahindra XUV300 EV
The all-electric XUV300 will be listed above eKUV100 and will drive power from a 130hpelectric motor which will be supported by a 40kWh battery. With a range of 300km and DC fast-charging capabilities, it will be listed in the higher segment from the eKUV100 and will compete against Tata Tigor and so on. Apart from the EV Tech, XUV300EV will share its underpinnings, interior and body panels with the standard vehicle.
Ford Mahindra Aspire EV
Aspire EV will be the first product to be co-developed by the recently announced Mahindra Ford tie-up and will hit the showrooms by the end of 2020. It will be based on the sub-four-meter version instead of a sedan. Even though the brands have agreed to a joint venture, Ford will provide just the body shell or glider without the engine and transmission to Mahindra Electric which in turn will add in the electric powertrain. Mahindra is also working on a high-voltage 380V system to match a larger battery pack. Mahindra will offer the vehicle with a 60kW motor along with a bigger 25kW battery pack and the brand is targeting around 150km of drive range.
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV
Maruti Suzuki will be launching its first electric vehicle based on the Wagon R by mid-2020. It has been involved in testing the vehicle prototypes all across India. The model will look completely different through it will be based on the India-spec version. The brand has not revealed any information for the vehicle but a range of 140km is being expected from the vehicle.
MG ZS EV
The second vehicle from Morris Garages will be launched in India by the end of this year and it will come powered with a 44.5kWh battery pack providing a range of 262km in a single charge. Through a 7kW AC power supply, it will take about 7hr to charge and through a 50kW DC fast charger, the time will reduce till 40min for 80% charge. The vehicle will be driven by a powerful electric motor churning out 143hp and 353Nm of torque.
Tata Altroz EV
Tata Altroz will arrive in the country by the second half of 2020 and it will feature a targeted range of 250-300kms. The company has not revealed any specifications yet but it will require a charging time of around 60min. The EV-version will feature the same body and interiors as the standard hatchback and will feature minor changes such as alloy wheel design.
Tata Nexon EV
Nexon EV will be based on the refreshed Nexon and is expected to hit the market by April 2020. It will feature Ziptron’s EV tech and will have a range of 300km. The model will come with an all-digital instrument cluster and other comfort providing features like the Standard SUV.
