Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS – Is this what the future looks like?

Mercedes-Benz displayed its newest electric vehicle concept, the Vision EQS at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2019. It is a futuristic vehicle designed for 2022 and looks a lot like Mercedes-Benz S-Class. But, why is the vehicle is so special and what does it exhibit?

As the name suggests, EQS is the electric variant of the flagship S-Class sedan focused on advance features for the comfort of customers. At the front, EQS is equipped with a light matrix that consists of 940 individual LEDs framing a single star and a set into a black panel. The light matrix replaces the grille and also increases the attraction quotient. EQS also features the all-new digital headlights, each with four holographic lenses and 500LEDs per headlamp, project light that seems like floating in the air.

The headlight of the EQS has an unlimited number of display possibilities that are expressive and interactive as per the environment. But that’s not it; at the rear, Vision EQS sports 229 individual LED stars to create Mercedes brand logo across the tailgate.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS is carved out of a mixture of steel, aluminum, and carbon-fiber and sits on 24-inch alloy wheels that are supported by Modular Electric Architecture from the German automobile makers. Apart from Vision EQS, Mercedes plans to utilize Modular Electric Architecture for five new models.

Interiors of EQS are based on a luxury yacht providing a new level of serenity and the floating dashboard blends with the body to form one-piece interior sculpture. The ambient lighting communicates information with the passengers and can also be tuned as per the mood.

The display on the dashboard enhances the visibility of digital content and is touch activated. EQS also features microfiber seats made from recycled PET bottles, artificial leather, a headlining made from recycled ocean plastics and maple wood. These sustainable materials made from recycling depicts that the future in the hands of Mercedes is value-able and supports advanced technology.

Under the hood, EQS sports a 100kWh battery with electric motors in the front and rear axles providing the facility of all-wheel drive and churning out 469Hp. With such immense power, Mercedes Vision EQS reaches from 0-100 in just 4.5 seconds. Though top speed for this futuristic car is 199kmph, the vehicle is more bent towards technological advancements and comfort.

Mercedes Vision EQS does not stop at giving power and comfort in this vehicle. Rather, the brand has also ensured that the customers do not have to wait for charging; 80% of the battery capacity can be replenished in just 20 minutes through a 350kW DC charger and on a full charge, it can travel up to 700kms very easily.

Mercedes Benz Vision EQS also sports autonomous driving with Level 3 capability and modular technology. The production of this vehicle will start by 2022 but before that, there are chances of more advancement in the technology used. But for now, EQS has joined the existing EQC SUV and upcoming EQV MPV and EQA hatchback.
